If we have anything in common you’re always ready to expand your TBR. This past year has been a bit rough and I haven’t managed to get around to reviewing all the books I’ve finished, or posting the reviews I did write. Even so here’s some books for your TBR.
Crooked House by Agatha Christie
Can you go wrong with any of Ms. Christie’s books? While I haven’t read them all, I have enjoyed the ones I’ve read.
Crooked House is as much a family drama, as a proper detective novel. Perhaps that’s what appeals to me so much about it. Believable characters, for me, are part and parcel to a good plot. I won’t finish a book with flat characters, no matter how exhilarating the plot line is. Crooked House has wonderful plot as all Christie’s work does. However, Crooked House is also a parade of wild characters, spinning about in wonderful ego-driven chaos.
Really, visiting the Leonides family of Crooked House might make yours seem charming and sweet!

The Ice Queen by Nele Neuhaus
Maybe you want to accompany your winter holiday with something a little more chilling? A little more dramatic? The Ice Queen satisfied all of those cravings at the same time it delivered a twisty sweeping mystery.
It begins with a murder, then weaves, back through the decades to the end of WWII, from Frankfurt, to what used to be East Prussia. Filled with menace, lies, secrets, and vengeance. It’s a mystery, but The Ice Queen is also the story of love, the loss of it, and how long it can last even when every physical trace seems to have drifted into the ether.

The Unexpected Mrs. Polifax by Dorothy Gilman
Or maybe your wondering why I’m recomending chilling misteries? Well I never turn down a spooky thrill, especially during the winter holidays, but maybe you want more of adventure romp? Well The Unexpected Mrs. Polifax will deliver!
I first came across The Mrs. Polifax novels on a raid of my relatives bookshelves. The world of Mrs Pollifax is a CIA in its infancy. She is the titular unexpected new agent to the game. With the thoroughly enjoyable combination of the sarcasm, that comes to the witty in their latter years, and the wide eyed surprise of a person delivered to world they had only dared to imagine. I find Mrs. Pollifax to be a character easily relatable, and likable. A woman who needs a new adventure, an exhilarating, fulfilling purpose for a life, whose primary objects have all been accomplished. Maybe I’ll visit with Mrs. Pollifax again.
