Thai Angel: New Bern, NC

There are many things I miss about life before quarantine, and social distancing. Dining out is one of those things. But! Restaurants are opening at reduced capacity or for take out, and that means Thai food in New Bern, Thai food = Thai Angel. Thai Angel is also the best Thai restaurant I’ve been too.

It’s a beautiful, quaint place in downtown New Bern that is a favorite haunt of mine. People watching from their windows added to the experience, however, delicious curry take away! Who isn’t stoked for delicious take away?!

If I was dining with friends, or Schöne Schwester, I’ld order a veritable smorgasbord: chicken satay, veggie crisp rolls, panang curry, crispy duck! Alas it’s just me so I’m feasting on steamed chicken dumplings, and Thai Green Curry.

While part of the appeal of take away used to be that their aren’t any dishes to be washed, these days anything is an occasion worth the dinning ware. Maybe even the cloth napkins.

I’ve been on my own for half a decade. Being on my own has made me well accustomed to making any evening, a to do, even by myself. Find a great podcast, or play a favorite album, settle down with a book, all things that pair well with Thai food.

On a side note. If you’ve never been to New Bern, NC, you should add it to your post quarantine travel list. Reasons to visit: downtown is beautiful, gorgeous botanical garden, and Croatan National Forrest just fifteen minutes away. New Bern was also one of the towns hit hardest by Hurricane Florence. Thai Angel isn’t the only great restaurant either. Bakers Kitchen is the place for breakfast. Their butter syrup is a must have! A town with out great Thai food and a great breakfast place isn’t a town I want to be in.
