No morning, can be called a good morning, if doesn’t include in it’s beginning hours a good cup of tea. While I won’t snub my nose at a travel mug, or a paper cup, on harried mornings, nothing can out steam the shrill whistle of the kettle, a properly brewed tea, in a china cup. Still – one can not survive on Earl Grey alone, though its a wonderful stand by.

One of my favorite things is finding a tea shop, or tea seller that offers small samples of their blends. Most of the month I stick some of my all time favorites: heather, turmeric, jasmine… once a month, though, I treat myself to a new kind of tea. Sometimes it’s a new favorite to add into my day to day, sometimes it’s an experience.

On a recent visit to Boston (one of my favorite cities) I picked up some new teas at the Boston Public Market. (If you’ve never been, and fresh produce fills you with joy – GO. On a Saturday, in the summer.)
Soluna Garden Farm has a charming stall with fresh cut flowers, and fresh brewed tea. This Monday, for my get up and go, I’m sampling their Boston Brunch Blend. Black tea, and yerba mate, with a brew time of about four minutes.

I prefer honey in my tea, often with a touch of milk, whole if I can get it. On it’s own, the Boston Brunch Blend has spicy aroma, and an earthy taste, with a citrus note at the end. I recommend a light honey, orange blossom, is my favorite. This particular tea, like Lady Grey, I wouldn’t suggest cream.
With the light flavors, Boston Brunch Blend is a tea that would pare well with a hard boiled egg, and sourdough, with marmalade, or fresh fruit scones, with lovely ripe cantaloupe. A tea that lives up to its name, a lingering brunch, on a brisk spring morning, when the fruits just come in, but one still needs a coat.
Do you have a favorite Monday Morning Tea? Let me know, I’m always looking for a new Tea of the Month.
